There speaker is Nick Zentner, the animated and gifted teacher/geologist from CWU. His topic: Supervolcanoes in the Pacific Northwest. Why is there 30 feet of volcanic ash south of Vantage, Wash.? For years, geologists thought the tephra must have come from a big eruption in the Cascades. New data from the ash bed confirms that a supervolcano in southern Idaho erupted 11.8 million years ago and sent ash to Washington and Nebraska simultaneously. Check out Nick’s website, http://www.nickzentner.com, with links to his lectures, his 2-Minutes Geology, Roadside Geology, and PBS videos.
