Free yard waste disposal event May 18 and 19

The first of two free yard waste disposal events was held last Friday and Saturday at the Chelan County Transfer Station in Chelan. It will continue this Friday and Saturday, May 18 and 19, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. both days. Items accepted: Trees and limbs up to 12 inches in diameter and less than 8 feet long, leaves, pine needles, and shrubs. Not accepted: Rocks, plastic bags, grass clippings, sod, root wads and weeds.  Seventy-five individuals took advantage of the on event on May 11 and 12, and traveled a total of 460.25 miles. They worked 435 hours, and dumped a total of 338 cubic yards of trees, limbs, etc. Their number of trips totaled 104. This program is organized by Cascadia Conservation District in partnership with Chelan County Public Works and the City of Chelan. The program is funded through Department of Ecology’s Air Quality Program, which partners with local organizations like Cascadia to help provide alternatives to burning, especially near areas where you cannot burn due to the Urban Growth Area Boundary. Chelan County Fire District #7 has also been supportive of this program.
