Lessons from Life

Posted

I just read the last two chapters of the book of Revelation where in John describes the vision he received of the Holy City, inside and out.

“The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light and the Lamb is its lamp.” Revelation 21:23

What an incredible image of this eternal city made of gold and pearls, and we will dwell there in the presence of The Most High God.  (Revelation 21:3)

Out of all these astonishing passages the one that touched me today was chapter 22 verse 9.  After seeing all this the author, John, is so moved he falls down to worship the angel who showed him these things and the angel says “…Do not do it!  I am a fellow servant with you…and of all who keep the words of this book.  Worship God!”  Even the highest most trusted angels in heaven will not be above us when we are made eternal; they will not accept worship.  Even a lowliest sinner who enters heaven by the thread of grace will stand with the angels of heaven and worship God face to face.  This humbles me to see the depth of His grace and mercy at work; even the angels anticipate our arrival and are in awe!

Revelation 21:
“…glory and honor of the nations will be brought into it. 27Nothing impure will ever enter it, nor will anyone who does what is shameful or deceitful, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb's book of life.”

“Those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life”  They/we are destined for glory!  This could not be made up!  Honor is reserved for mighty men and Kings, not the weak and foolish that men despise.  If anyone wanted to ‘make up’ a religion for people to follow they wouldn’t go this route.

“God in His wisdom saw to it that the world would never know Him through human wisdom.”  1 Corinthians 1:18-31 teaches us that God has all the strength and wisdom He needs.  He did not chose people based on any criteria.  He could choose us before the creation of the world because we have nothing He needs.

God will prove by His grace that He could take ANYBODY and remove the impure and make them holy.  He could remove their own silly thoughts and give them wisdom.  He could remove their unbelief and give them faith.  He can remove their hatred and give them love.

God can take a proud man and when He is done that proud man will fall on his face before the messenger of God in awe and fear.

How do you know you are chosen?  You desire God…it is that simple.  Not that you desire what God can do for you but that you simply desire Him.  That’s it in a nut shell.  Face it, when you get to heaven who will be the most obvious person there?  GOD!!  If He is not your reason for seeking eternal life, you would be disappointed when you get to heaven because it really is all about Him.

Does it really matter that there are streets of gold and gates of pearl?  “Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness…”  Jesus is enough!
