Chelan's KBeach Volleyball Club competes on Pacific beaches

CHELAN – Volleyball coach Desiree Phelps, eight of her players along with their families, traveled to Southern California in late June to compete at three beach volleyball tournaments.

On June 24, the team competed at Pacific Palisades, two days later they travelled to Long Beach for the Belmont Shore competition and they ended their tour in Santa Monica on the 28th competing at the North Beach tournament.

The team was formed by six Chelan girls, one Spokane girl and one Manson girl. The team has been training not only for these three tournaments, but for other ones since May 1.

“Getting out of our local area and competing with bigger teams in their homeland is very important to us” said Phelps. Competing in different tournaments in different areas and on the Pacific sands bring to the players a different playing perspective. At times the high winds and the heavy sand brought challenges the players' way, regardless “they love the changes and the challenges” added Phelps.

This is the second time Phelps has taken a group of players down to this tournament and they always have a great time whether or not they are competing.

In one of their off days, the girls had a training session with McKenna (Witt) Thibodeau and Madison Witt, who are part of the Professional Beach Volleyball Tour AVP at Huntington Beach. The girls trained with them for an hour and a half, the girls seemed “very comfortable it was a very positive experience.”

As a coach, Phelps takes opportunities such as these three tournaments to watch how others play and how her players can improve. All players had their moments during playing time and as Phelps said “all are there for the right reasons.”

If your kid is interested in joining KBeach Volleyball Club contact Desiree Phelps at kahiauvbc@outlook.com. The club has full indoor schedules from November through April for grades four to 12 grade and the "on the sand" program starts in May for both boys and girls kindergarten to 18 years old.

KBeach’s home base is in Chelan, but they work with kids from all other cities in the valley.
