Prop 1 Link Transit would fund 30 projects

Posted

Link Transit is proposing more than 30 transit improvement projects around the region based on the community’s desires.

Since 2016, Link has been engaging with the community to determine what they would like their transit to be. They said they want a transit system that operates earlier in the mornings, later in the evenings, on the weekends and holidays. To them public transportation has to meet the needs of tourism and services workers on the weekends, as well as service second and third shift workers in the medical, manufacturing and fruit industries. Another concern for the community is improving the services provided for seniors and fully meet the special  needs of disabled residents.

In order to improve the services, Link is running a proposition to increase their Sales and Use Tax by 2/10ths of 1% in this year’s Election. This means for every $10 retail purchase, Link would receive an additional two cents in sales tax.

The monies will fund more than 30 projects in the area planned over the next six years. Including:
• Add Saturday service to all cities and towns as well as Sunday service
• Begin service earlier in the morning
• Operate later evening service, some routes until 12:00 a.m.
• Faster service between Leavenworth and Wenatchee, Chelan and Wenatchee
• Expand coverage to reach more areas
• Smaller buses in residential neighborhoods
• Cost-effective rural services
• More frequent service on major urban areas

For the average household in the service area, the proposal would have a yearly impact of $24 in additional sales tax.
