Cashmere Bulldogs crush Chelan Goats to keep Bronze Shoe

Posted

CASHMERE - The Cashmere Bulldogs retained the coveted Bronze Shoe trophy by beating the Chelan Mountain Goats 30-7 on their home turf Friday, Oct. 5 marking four years in a row the 'Dawgs get to chew on the Shoe.

Despite the rain, Cashmere's passing game caused much chagrin in the Goats porous defense resulting in many big gains for the home team.

Although it is called a rivalry, the Bulldogs continued to dominate the 65-year tradition winning for the 52nd time out of 65 years.

The Bulldogs scored first after Chelan fumbled and junior Javi Renta kicked a 32-yard field goal giving them a 3-0 lead.

The Goats came back and went downfield 53 yards for a touchdown and their only lead of the game.

The Bulldogs came back immediately and went 71 yards and scored on a 20-yard pass play from quarterback Sam Philips to Mason Landdeck.

After another field goal by Renya, the Bulldogs recovered another Goat fumble and scored another touchdown on a quarterback sneak as the first half ended with a score of 20-7

Cashmere sealed the Goats' fate by scoring again to start the second half after Phillips and Landdeck paired up again on a 47-yard touchdown pass to give the Bulldogs a commanding 27-7 lead.

Renya added one more field goal to make it 30-7.

Bulldog Coach Brian Bremer said he was "proud" of his team. The win marked the first "Shoe" victory for Bremer, who is in his first year as Varsity head coach for the 'Dawgs.

Bremer said the trophy was to be shared by the whole community, not just the school or football team.
