Chelan football: More returning players than ever

Posted

CHELAN – The Goats are back for another great year of football for Chelan High School under the guidance of head coach Travis Domser.

The team has been working hard for the upcoming season. “We’ve conditioned like never before, we got accountability like we never before, we got guys that want to be here, they are excited to go out and show their skills,” said Coach Domser.

This year the expectations are pretty high since the team has a lot of returning players. “We have a lot of returning offense, a lot of returning defense. This is a good senior group, we have 22 juniors and seniors which we haven’t had.”

As every year Domser has certain expectations for the team, “when things don’t go our way we respond in a way that will help us win football games, how we respond to that, the coaches and the players will determine the outcome of the game.”

The team is very motivated to making far this season, “we will wait and see who steps up, who makes a big play … with this group we will go as far as we want to,” said Domser.

Smoke from the fires near by has not affected the team at all, “it is what it is, it actually helps us in some ways. It helps us with making sure we are watching a film and doing a lot of teaching. It helps to make sure we are conditioning and when you are outside you are freed up,” coach explained.

Coach Domser has pushed the team to use their minds and focus more. “We just focus on mentality, it’s about what the players can execute. They know if we block better and tackle better then we got a chance to win the game.”

The Goats are 1-0-1 for the season. They won their opening game against Brewster 47-27.

Coach Domser’s comments from Friday night’s game against Warden:

“I was proud of our kids and the way they fought a battle all night. It was one of those games that came down to the wire and we were right there.  We made one more mistake than them and that’s on us as coaches. I’m excited to see how we bounce back this week!”
