Chelan Student Athletes of the Month

Each week, Coaches nominate Student-Athletes in their programs that excel in their sport that week. We would like to recognize our Student-Athletes for their efforts and appreciate them representing the Lake Chelan School District wearing the “Chelan” uniform. Each Student-Athlete of the week winner will receive a “free cheeseburger, fries and drink” from B.C. MacDonalds.

WINNERS:
Middle School - George Benson – 7th grade Basketball: George has represented Chelan basketball in many ways. He has continued to work hard in practice and in games to become our starting center. He has also won 3 of the 4 tip offs to start our games. He is constantly looking to work and get better in the classroom and on the court. We have asked him to try new things and get out of his comfort zone and George has taken on the tasks and has become one of our most improved players. -Coach Reister
 
High School - Connor Wilson- Boys Basketball: Connor is off to a great start for the Goats!!  The sharp shooting sophomore has scored double digit points in each of his first 4 games.  Connor is making his presence felt already in the CTL, he’s hit some big shots already for the Chelan Goats. 23 pts  4 rebs 2 assts  vs Cascade 17 pts 4 rebs 1 asst  vs Okanogan -Coach Pearl
 
Chelan Middle School NOMINEES
Logan Oules and Ethan Strandberg- 8th Grade Boys Basketball
Both of these young men are a coach’s delight as they are willing to do all those things that make a team great.  They will guard the other team’s best player, big or small, dive on the floor or get every loose ball. They are great teammates and are positive role models for their peers. They even volunteer to carry the water bottles and basketballs!  Cheers to these two for being what all should strive to be! -Coach Stamps
Tate Sandoval- 7th grade Basketball
Tate has shown a great work ethic all season long. He is very coachable and is a great teammate. Tate has been a constant contributor on the boards and on defense! -Coach Boyd

Chelan High School NOMINEES
Ashley Sams- Girls Basketball
Ashley had an outstanding week.  She played very well in the post in the Lady Goat’s win over Cascade, helping the Goats capture their first league win of the season.  Friday at Okanogan, Ashley crashed hard on the boards and hustled up and down the floor as the Goats came up a little short against the Bulldogs.     -Coach Steve Nygreen
Connor Wilson- Boys Basketball

Javier Pastor – Wrestling
As one of our team captains, Javier pushes everyone to be their best. This week leading up to Bellevue Christian tournament, he pushed his team during practice and at the tournament. Not only does he show leadership on the mat, he is also a leader in the classroom. This last weekend he faced a stacked weight class, went into overtime in his second match to pull out a tough win. He walked away taking 1st place and also lead his team to take 1st place as a team. -Coach Chambers

Since there was no  middle school events this last week, we will have 2 winners from the High School Teams.
 WINNERS:
Rosa Lopez- Cheer
This is her first year participating in cheer. She has stepped up as a team leader with dance, cheers and has even become a key member for two stunting groups as both a flyer and a base. She not only has a strong work ethic in cheer but she is a hard worker in the classroom.  -Coach Hanson
Katie Rainville- Girls Basketball
Katie Rainville provided the Lady Goats with a dependable post presence and outstanding defense as the Goats battled 3 of the state’s best teams last week.   Visiting Cle Elum, the Goats came up short on the road.  Rainville was a dominant post presence whose high low game with So. Ashley Sams helped the goats get back into the game on an 18-8 run in the 3rd quarter.  Against league foe Omak, Katie was solid again in the post as the Lady Goats erased a deficit to get within 4 points of the visiting Pioneers.  Katie lead the Lady Goats in scoring at Zillah.  She was part of a defensive effort that held CWU-recruit Sam Bowman to 8 points.   Last week was a huge step forward for the Freshman forward.  Congratulations Katie on a great week. Bert Mendivil – HS Boys Basketball

Bert has really come into his own this year in his point guard role with the Goats.  He played well against one of the toughest back courts in the State.  Bert is a self-less player that is always looking for ways to pick up his teammates. -Coach Pearl

Erik Acala- Wrestling
Eric is the Captain of the Team. Last week @ Cascade Erik went 2-0. He is undefeated in league. He leads the team and he has been taking on leadership with younger student-athletes. - Coach Chambers
