Chelan Volleyball to win it all

Posted

CHELAN – Volleyball players from Chelan High School kept themselves busy playing club and beach volleyball during the off season which will bring only positive results to the team this new school season.

“We have quite a few returners and then new ones to Varsity … everybody else has been here,” said Volleyball Head Coach Jenifer Rainville. Varsity gained a few players, one of them is Morgyn Harrison a freshman who has able to make the first team.

“I expect the girls to work hard, play to their potential and have fun,” said Rainville. She also believes the team can make it far into the season because they have a lot of capability.

The relationship between Rainville and the girls is great, they understand her expectations and rules “they are very respectful,” she added.

The teams and the coaches are taking this season one day at a time, “each day is a new day and the next big game is the one we have coming up, one match at a time.”

Varsity Captains Lexie Gleasman and Emma McLaren are both confident on the fact that the team’s chemistry will allow them to win games.

“We all get along well, we laugh and are competitive at the same time and we still have fun. We have one big goal at end.’’ said Gleasman.

This year the team wants to go further than last year, “last year we got fourth in state, hopefully we return and place higher than last time. This year we are a lot of better.’’ said McLaren.

This is the year of many of the girls in the team, they picture themselves winning it all with their hard work. “We hope to see a lot people out here … it is a lot of fun.” added McLaren.

The Lady Goats faced Wenatchee last Thursday. This is what coach had to say about their performance:

“We traveled to Wenatchee to play our first match of the season.  We started out strong in set 1 then we allowed our opponent to score too many times in sets 2 and 3.  The Goats were able to push through and come out with a win in three straight sets;  25-12, 25-20, 25-19.  Lexie Gleasman, our senior outside hitter, took control at the net and led the Goats with 18 kills.  We will be back in the gym tomorrow making some adjustments and working one day at a time.’’
