ENTIAT – The Tigers started off the 2017-18 season with a home game against Mansfield/Waterville Shockers, Friday, Dec. 1. While Entiat started the season with a loss to the Shockers, Head Coach Miles Caples is confident in the abilities of the team.
Caples brings 32 years of coaching experience, including three years on staff with WSU basketball, and a Head Coach at Oregon for five years. He coached in Cashmere for 15 years until the graduation of his son, when he went into administration, accepting a position as principal at Entiat High School. Now filling the roles of superintendent and athletic director and, for the fourth year, head coach of boys’ basketball.
The Tigers have three strong returners according to Caples. Ronnie Parks at guard, who made first team all-league last year, Blake Duncan at forward, and Case Crutcher at forward. All of whom were starters for the Tigers last year. So, who do you watch for that wasn’t there last year? Caples said to watch for Sophmroe Cameron Ishenhard. The first-year varsity player has a lot to contribute and is a “very physical kid,” explained Caples, “he has some really good instincts so I think he can do some really good things.”
The Tigers lost two seniors from last year’s graduation, one of whom was MVP in league for the previous two seasons, “now it’s going to be, how do our other guys step up to fill that role?” Caples said, “we’re a young team, we’re going to have a lot of sophomores that are playing, but there a good group of athletes so as the season goes on we’re going to progress.”
