Goats ready to make a comeback in Cashmere

Posted

CHELAN – Time has come, the 65th year of the Battle of Shoe will take place Oct. 5, at 7 p.m. The Goats will be visiting the Bulldog’s home in Cashmere.

With five games already played the Goats, “are playing with effort and great enthusiasm, when they choose to do those things we are pretty good,” said Chelan Head Coach Travis Domser.
Chelan is now 3-2, last Friday, Sept. 28 the Goats lost their game against Okanogan ending the game 12-14.

The team has been able to finish fourth quarters and they are in good shape, “we are still challenging to travel better, but have been good at home, tough at home and I am proud of the kids for their effort and their energy, said Domser.

In general these group of guys have been very committed to the program, “it’s showing and they get to play to on Friday night and they get to do things that a lot of people can’t do,” Domser added.

Against Cashmere Domser never knows what to expect from the team, “they are really good, they are very well coached … I know that it doesn’t take much to get excited for that football game we’ve been in it every year except for last year, so we have to bounce back from that,” coach said.

Even though the Bulldogs play at home, the Goats will be ready “you have to overcome those type of things and get ready, we got to be our best.”

Having a large group of seniors makes a difference in the game, “if you have seniors you have a way better chance, right now we are only playing a sophomore and rotating another one on defense, everybody else is juniors and seniors.”

With a large number of upper-class men the team is able to tackle and play a better defense. “This group of seniors is a lot of fun to work with, they’re coachable, they’re dedicated and they are good leaders.”

Last year was tough game for the Goats when they faced the Bulldogs, however this year they hope to switch things around. “We were pretty young, most of those guys are coming back, they remember it and we will remind them of it … it’s exciting to get back at them, we look forward to that game each year, we are going to show up and be ready!” explained Domser.

For both communities the Battle of the Shoe game is a big deal, to Domser it “exemplifies pride, school sports, tradition and Friday Night Lights, those things are a major priority in any high school or community this game highlights those things that are still natural and good.”
