Goats tennis team squeaks by Cascade

Posted

CHELAN - The Goats tennis team - although good - were fortunate to get a win against Cascade this past week according the head coach Marty Rothlisberger.

“We felt fortunate to get the win on the girls side because we were missing two key players and Cascade has been the CTL champs the past three seasons,” Rothlisberger wrote after the game. “It turned out that Cascade was also missing two key players, and we were able to beat them with depth.”

Although a little shorthanded, Rothlisberger felt there were some newcomers that served as key contributors.

“Alex Gavin had just won a challenge match to earn a varsity spot and we gave him the opportunity to play singles,” Rothlisberger said. “He played the most consistent tennis I’ve ever seen him play. Also, Azzia MacDonald (rookie) and Sky Zelenko filled in for our missing varsity veterans and pulled off an impressive comeback victory.”

Despite the win, Rothlisberger was adamant in saying that the season is still early and although they are a pretty good team, “we need to improve at everything.”

Let’s hope the Goats are using their spring break to practice and hone in their tennis skills before getting into the tournaments later in the year.
