Lady Goats fall to Connell twice on Saturday

Posted

CHELAN - The Chelan Lady Goats softball team dropped both of their games against Connell this past Saturday, although the games were a lot closer than the box score would indicate.

Overall, just a couple of innings that snowballed into big scoring cost the Goats.

In their first game, Chelan fell behind in the first couple innings and struggled to put anything together offensively as they could muster only six hits off the Connell pitcher.

Taylor Sams took the loss for the Goats after throwing seven innings, and allowing six runs on six hits.

Taylor Boykin, Jessie Oules, Ashley Oswald, Katanna Kelling, Katie Gleasman and Sierra Shively each collected one hit in the first game.

Similar to the morning game, the Goats hung around with Connell for the majority of the game. Unfortunately, Connell exploded for seven runs in the third inning after a couple errors and timely hits.

Chelan attempted a comeback over the latter half of the game, but the hole they dug in the third inning proved to be too much to overcome as the Goats lost by a final score of 13-5.

The Goats garnered 12 hits in their effort with Gleasman, Kelling and Oules each getting three hits apiece.

“The whole story today is we played bad defense and we looked like a team that was still on spring break,” head coach Jeff Barker said in his game report. “The physical and mental errors killed us. It is time to refocus and put this behind us.”

Chelan will look to sharpen up their defense before this weekend’s games against Cascade. This weekend also marks the start of a eight game home stretch for the Goats. First pitch on Saturday is set for 11 a.m.
