Lady Trojans win softball nail-bitter game

MANSON - The Manson Trojan Softball team hosted Pateros on Monday, April 29 for what turned into the great nail-biter of the season.

The Trojans won the game in the bottom of the 9th inning with a score of 21-20.

Freshman, Josephine Thompson was the starting pitcher, with Marylein Bernardo and Lexi Stotko each seeing some time in the circle as well and Senior, Devyn Smith was behind the plate.

Defensively, the Trojans played well, with highlights across the board. Lexi Stotko had a great showing in the outfield with a catch on a hard hit ball to right field in the 3rd inning and another great play on a throw to 3rd for an out in the 5th.

Salena Joiner also had a great game in the outfield with 2 catches in center field- one, she turned into a double play with a spot on throw from center to first base to get out a runner who didn’t tag up.

Melanie Marin had a great game at short stop, Megan Clausen played solid at first, Perla Villasenor played well at 3rd and Catcher, Devyn Smith had another fantastic game.

Offensively, the Trojans jumped off to a slow start-but fired up the horses in the 5th inning to come off a 7 run deficit to within 2 runs.  

In the bottom of the 7th inning, the Trojans were down 4 runs with 2 outs and bases loaded when Freshman, Josephine Thompson hit a grand slam to tie the game.

The Trojans were able to pull off the win in the bottom of the 9th inning off a hit by Megan Clausen.
Along with her grand slam, Josephine Thompson also hit 3 singles and a double.

Senior Devyn Smith made a run at hitting for the cycle with a single, a double and a triple on the day.
Marylein Bernardo hit a single and a triple, Megan Clausen hit 3 singles and Melanie Marin, Paige Schoenwald and Lexi Stotko hit 2 singles each.

The Trojans had a clutch night at bat, with hits, runs and base running all playing a factor on the win.

Lady Trojans fall 1-13 at Lake Roosevelt
 

The Manson Trojan Softball team travelled to Lake Roosevelt on Thursday, May 2 for a weekday double header and lost both games with matching scores of Manson 1- Lake Roosevelt 13.

In game 1, Sophomore, Alexis Stotko was the pitcher and Senior Devyn Smith was behind the plate.
Defensively, the Trojans played well, with some great plays coming from Megan Clausen at 1st base and a great catch in the outfield by Freshman Raven Pope.

At bat, the Trojans ended the game with just five hits off a tough LR pitcher, with courtesy runner, Alondra Chavez scoring the only Trojan run.

Trojans with hits were: Megan Clausen, double; Raven Pope, single; Marylein Bernardo, single; Devyn Smith, single.

In Game 2: Freshman, Josephine Thompson was the pitcher and Senior Devyn Smith served as catcher.
Defensively, the Trojans made some errors early in the game, leading to a big first inning for LR.
Offensively, the Trojans ended the game with 1 hit, by Freshman Josephine Thompson and the only run of the game was scored by Senior Perla Villasenor.

The Trojans will play their final scheduled game of the season on Tuesday, May 7 at home against Waterville-Mansfield for Senior Night.
