Manson to District playoffs despite loss against Brewster

MANSON - The Manson Trojan Volleyball team hosted the undefeated Brewster Bears on Thursday, Oct. 18 and lost in three close sets.

Set scores were 19-25, 22-25 and 16-25.

Highlights came from Maycee Ward, who had a strong night all around- putting up 7 kills, served 12/12, added 15 digs and had stellar Serve Receive for Manson.

The Trojans struggled with their serves- missing several critical attempts. Briseida Landa served 5/5 and Lauren Soliday served 7/8.

Megan Clausen led the team in kills with 8, Josephine Thompson added 7.

Josephine Thompson and Lauren Soliday each added 11 digs, Briseida Landa added 10.

Along with Maycee, Josephine and Megan also had a strong Serve Receive night.

Overall- the Trojans had a good night- despite some poor serving, the Trojans fought hard and played tough defense with high energy.

The loss puts Manson’s League record at 6-1 with one more league match for the season.

In JV action- the Trojans won both sets with scores of 25-18 and 25-11.

For C team, the Trojans won both sets with set scores of 25-13 and 25-18.

Highlights behind the service line came from Natalie Solorio served 15/15 with 4 aces, Brenda Alonso served 11/11 with 4 aces, Kati Chavez served 8/8 with 3 aces,  Stefany Luna served 5/5 with 2 aces and both Marylein Bernardo and Katie Gosvener served 1/1.

Leading the team in kills was Lexi Stotko with 3 and Brenda Alonso and Marylein Bernardo added 2 each.

Jenny Cesar-Alonso led the team with 6 digs, Melanie Marin added 4 and Ali Adame had 2 more.

The Trojans will play their final league match of the season on Tuesday in Waterville.

 Manson sits in second place - and will head into District playoffs set to play the south league’s third place team.

Top 5 teams out of Districts will go to State.
