Manson Football playing as a family

Posted

MANSON – A second year for head coach Joey Johanson and his Trojans has already began.

“We started off by playing with some great competition, so hopefully we can continue on throughout the season,” said Trojan Captain Avery Thomson.

The team’s chemistry is looking more than great, “we really feel like a family this year and this helps with playing at our level,” he added.

Johanson has helped tremulously, “we are getting back into the rhythm of things with all the chemistry and bonding we do,” Thomson said.

The Trojans attended a summer camp at EWU, “the smoke made it hard in the beginning, but once we were out of the gym we have been hitting conditioning hard,” said Johanson.

In the roster are 35 Manson students, “we have 12 seniors, we haven’t had 35 in a long time.”

Last year, the Trojans won the league 8-2, “this year the goal is to get back to where we were and hopefully go a little further.''

Johanson wants the team to compete, “in the fourth quarter we still have a shot to win the game, no matter who the team is.”

“Family is huge concept, out of the field, in the field, we got each other’s back,” said coach.

The team’s seniors are “great leaders” they help freshman by teaching them everything they need to know, “they bonded a lot, we are back to being a family.”

The Trojans have the ability to “pass the ball, that’s one of our huge strengthens.” The offensive line is another great strength the team has, Johanson describes the players as “technical” because at every play they know who to block.

“If we keep playing like a family, we can go as far as we want. There’s no stopping,” said captain.
