Manson Trojan softball double header, win one, lose one

MANSON - The Manson Trojan Softball team hosted their first games of the season on Saturday, March 23 starting with a double header for Varsity and a Single game for JV.

In Varsity action the Trojans split games with the Hornets, losing the first game 12-13 before coming back in the second game and winning 16-6.

In game 1, the the Trojans lost 12-13.

Sophomore, Alexis Stotko was the starting pitcher for the Trojans and struck out 5 batters, walked 4, and gave up 7 hits. Senior Devyn Smith served as the Trojan catcher.

Defensive highlights for game 1 include freshman short stop Josephine Thompson and senior first baseman, Megan Clausen, who connected for six great plays for outs and Freshman Paige Schoenwald made a great running catch on a hard hit ball to left field.

At bat, highlights include Paige Schoenwald and senior, Salena Joiner, with 4 hits apiece and Josephine Thompson with another 4 hits, including a nice double in the 3rd inning.

In game 2, the Trojans won 16-6.

Freshman Josephine Thompson was the starting pitcher and struck out 5, walked 4 and gave up 3 hits. Senior Devyn Smith was the catcher for Manson.

Defensive highlights include a caught pop fly from Josephine Thompson, along with a diving play and a throw from the ground to senior Megan Clausen for the out.

At the plate, highlights came from Salena Joiner, Megan Clausen and Josephine Thompson, who all hit doubles.

Overall- the entire Manson Softball team had a great outing with every Trojan batter getting on base at least once.

Today’s games puts the Manson season record at 1-1.

In JV action- The Trojans lost 9-25.

And, although the score was lopsided- the Trojan batters showed strong promise for their first outing (for many, this is the first sport they have ever played)- with every batter making it on base. Esme Villa had the only double of the game- a nice hit out to center field.

Defensively, short stop, Monse Villasenor had a great double play with a caught fly ball and a throw back to first ahead of the tag up. Second basemen, Esme Villa, also had a great caught fly ball to end the second inning.

It was a great day at Singleton park for the Trojans.
Next up is: Tuesday, March 26, at home vs Waterville-Mansfield at 4:30 p.m.
