MANSON – Trojans’ varsity soccer defender Marco Mendoza led the list of his Manson teammates named to the 2018 Central Washington B-2B soccer All-League nominations. Mendoza shared MVP honors with Hugo Santana of Bridgeport. Heri Sarmiento was named First Team midfielder, Eduardo Escalera First Team defender, Arturo Valdovinos First Team goalkeeper, Isai Rodriguez, Second Team defender, and Eberardo Aguilar, Honorable Mention forward.
“Heri, Eduardo and Marco have been playing varsity soccer since freshman year and they deserve to be on the All-League First Team,” said varsity coach Jared Mumley. “They were all co-captains with exceptional character to go along with their hard work and talent.”
Co-MVP Mendoza “always brought an attitude of hard work, grit and leadership,” said Mumley. “The team followed his lead.”
Sarmiento, a senior, “played every minute of every one of our games and was the key to our offensive and defensive success,” Mumley said.
Mumley described senior Escalera “an everywhere kind of player.  He played defense, midfield and forward and delivered for us every time.”

Mumley said Valdovinos, the team’s sophomore goalkeeper “was clearly the best goalkeeper in the league.”
“He is very talented but more than that he works incredibly hard,” said Mumley. “He trains by himself during the offseason as well as on the weekends in season.”
Mumley predicted that if Valdovinos continues the level of dedication to his position “he will be First Team All-League for the next two years.”
Valdovinos averaged 6.5 saves per game this season
Rodriguez, a freshman, recorded the “second best goals-against in the league,” Mumley said.
Sophomore forward Aguilar scored six goals this season.
Manson also won the year’s team Sportsmanship Award. “This is voted on by all the coaches in the league and is evidence of what great kids we have and the culture of positive competition and sportsmanship,” said Mumley. “I’m so proud of the team for earning this distinction.”
The Trojans finished the regular season in third place with a 6-4 record behind Brewster and Bridgeport. Manson qualified for the CTL/CWB 1A District soccer playoffs and was defeated by 1A Cascade, 3-0, in the loser-out first round.
