Game #2 Junior Varsity
Manson 5   Pateros 12

MANSON - On Saturday (March 23) the Trojans welcomed the Billy Goats of Pateros to Manson for the 2019 season opener.  A non-league double-header with one varsity contest followed by a junior varsity matchup.

The ball park at Singleton still held snow in foul territories, but flawless weather set in all day. The Trojans debuted new uniforms and suited 19 players.  A strong Trojan crowd and several baseball alumni players enjoyed a great day of Trojan baseball.
Senior Avery Thompson was the opening day pitcher and sophomore Caden Beazley was the starting catcher.  Thompson pitched 5 solid innings striking out 8 with no walks and no runs, giving up only 2 hits on 74 pitches.

Junior Parker Schoenwald relieved Thompson for 2 innings and was equally as effective.  Schoenwald recorded 4 strikeouts giving up no runs, walks or hits on 21 pitches.

Defensively the Trojans committed only 1 error and junior 3rd baseman Parker Schoenwald turned in several great plays and was the defensive player of the game.

The Trojan’s offense was as solid as the defense-pounding out 9 hits and scoring 9 runs. The Trojans started hot and were wowed by Avery Thompson who crushed a two run home run on the first pitch he saw of the season. Thompson finished the day 2 for 3 with 3 RBI’s.  Senior Bailey Cameron showcased his strong base running skills and added a sharp RBI single.  Bailey Cameron and sophomore Tucker Flowers recorded their first career hits as a Trojan.  Junior Cole Cochran added two nice hits and Caden Beazley tallied his first stolen base of the season.

Trojans with hits were Caden Beazley, Avery Thompson (2) HR, Parker Schoenwald, Bailey Cameron, Jake Lodwig, Cole Cochran (2).

Game # 2 Junior Varsity

Manson 5  Pateros 12

The Trojans sent junior lefty Caleb Rossell to the hill for his first start of the season.  Rossell has a strong arm and a biting slider that is difficult to judge. Rossell was a work horse and went 4 and 1/3 innings racking up 8 strikeouts giving up 6 hits while walking 9 using up the league maximum of 105 pitches.

Pitching in relief was sophomore Ryan Gildersleeve 1 inning, and freshman Alex Solorio 1 and 2/3 innings.   Gildersleeve recorded 1 strikeout and Solorio tossed in 3 strikeouts.

The junior varsity offense fought but struggled recording only 1 hit from Gildersleeve. Sophomore Ubaldo Vargas has 2 RBI’s, and Alex Solorio, 8th grader Rex Torgesen and Sophomore Malichi Sanchez each had an RBI.

The defense played well committing only 1 error.   Ubaldo Vargas was the defensive player of the game with 2 putouts and turned in a web gem when he made an athletic leap and landed on 3rd base for a forced out.

A special thank you to Sandra Clausen and Bev La Mar who provided our traditional double-header lunch-so good.

The Trojan’s next scheduled game was Tuesday, March 26, a home single-header at Singleton Park in Manson against the Shockers of Waterville at 4:30 p.m., followed by a home double-header against Tonasket on Saturday, March 30.
