Trojans win baseball game on the road

PATEROS - The Trojans traveled to Pateros for a non- league single-header on April 29.
Jose Pascasio climbed the hill for the Trojans and Avery Thompson was the starting catcher.  Pascasio gave up 0 runs, 0 hits and had 5 strikeouts.

Pitching in relief was Caden Beazley and Parker Schoenwald.

Defensively the Trojans played very well.  Turning in great plays was short stop Caleb Rossell, Caden Beazley while at 3rd base made a great catch on a hard hit line drive, and the catcher Avery Thompson picked off a runner at 2nd base with a throw from his knees.

Offensively the Trojans ran the bases with confidence and scored in bunches.  Avery Thompson had a hot bat with 4 hits-two being doubles.  Parker Schoenwald added a nice double in the 4th inning.

Caleb Rossell was also on fire and had three hits and an intentional walk. With Rossell’s last trip to the plate in the 6th inning, he sent a fastball deep into the Pateros’ evening skyline, and with a thunderous clang of the bleachers in center field, hit his first home run of the season.

The Trojans have an overall record of 8-5 going into the final three games of the season.

Trojans punch ticket to the playoffs

The Trojans took the long trip to Lake Roosevelt for a weekday (May 2) league double-header with the pressure on as a playoff spot was on the line for the Trojans.

Game 1 - Manson  8  Lake Roosevelt 6 - (9 innings)

As the Trojans have done all season long, they sent the staff ace Avery Thompson to the hill for the most important game of the season.

Thompson came into the game in impressive fashion tallying 49 strikeouts in 32 1/3 innings pitched so far.  Jose Pascasio was the catcher.  

Thompson pitched tough against a very solid hitting Raider team and kept the Trojans in the game going 5 innings giving up 3 runs scattering 4hits, striking out 8 and walking 6 using 100 pitches.  Thompson turned it over to Caleb Rossell with a 3 to 3 tie in the 6th inning.

Caleb Rossell was outstanding in relief throwing 4 innings giving up 3 runs on 3 hits, striking out 6 and walking 4 using 93 pitches and earning the win in the 9th inning.

The defense played well committing only 3 errors, and outstanding plays were turned in by 3rd baseman Parker Schoenwald and 1st baseman Jake Lodwig.  A game saving web gem with an acrobatic over the shoulder catch was turned in by second baseman Caden Beazley.  

Offensively the Trojans were out hit by the Raiders 7-6, but the Trojans made better use of bunts and stolen bases.  Avery Thompson had a big game with 3 hits and 4 RBI’s, his first hit was an opposite field blast for a two run home run.  Parker Schoenwald had 2 hits and 3 RBI’s.

Game 2 - Manson 3  Lake Roosevelt 0

The Trojans sent senior Jose Pascasio to the hill in game 2 and he pitched a gem.  
Pascasio had a knee buckling curve ball going and threw a complete game shut out.  Pascasio’s line-7 innings, 0 runs on 3 hits, striking out 10 and walking 1 using 82 pitches.  

Offensively in game 2 it was an all around team effort with 6 different Trojans getting hits.

The two wins punch the Trojan’s ticket to the playoffs.  

The Trojans next scheduled game is their final game of the regular season and Senior Night on Tuesday, May 7 against Waterville. The Trojans will celebrate 7 seniors at a pregame ceremony.
