A young Chelan High School Cross Country Team

Posted

CHELAN – The first couple of weeks of practice the Chelan Cross Country team has been preparing for a new season by running long distances every day.

With smoke still surrounding the area it has been difficult to get the team where they should be at the moment.

“We will have to make some adjustments training wise … a lot of it is going to depend on how fast the kids can adapt,” said head coach Mark Anderson.

This year the team has a number of returning runners, “I have two kids who ran in the state meet last year … we are young and there’s a lot of potential in this team,” said Anderson.

Anderson has been coaching Cross Country for a long time and he says that him and the kids get along just fine.
Coach Anderson also sees individual runners have a lot of success this season. The team in general is composed of mostly underclassmen and some are just starting their cross country career so coach will wait and see the growth of the team as they compete at every meet.

Regardless of their experience “the kids enjoy each other’s company, so far so good.”

Anderson’s goal for the team is to “get them in a position where they can challenge to race.”

The Goat’s first Cross County home meet will be held on Oct.  2 at the Chelan State Park.
