MLK project evolves into donation giving frenzy

Posted

MANSON - What started out as just a Martin Luther King Day project evolved into a donation giving frenzy for Ann Marie Wisdom’s 5th and 6th grade class.

Over the past few weeks, her students have planned and organized two separate service projects to raise money and donations for the Lake Chelan Community Hospital and the Humane Society.

Inspired by MLK, the students wanted to “help people like he did,” so they organized a cookie bake sale and asked stores in the Manson area if they wished to donate. Some students even got out an apron to help bake a few cookies.

In total, the students raised $366.71 for the hospital, all of which will go toward a child who goes to LCCH for services, but can’t afford the visit, and over $50 in food, toys, blankets and treats for the animals at the Humane Society. Both were presented to Arlene Abbott, LCCH Foundation and Barb Snow from the Humane Society last week.

RIGHT: Barb Snow from the Humane Society gives the kids a quick lesson about spay and neutering your pet as well as the dangers of leaving them in a car, before posing for a picture.
