| | Email this article Print this article | Florence M. Field Florence M. Field, 105, died July 4, 2010, at Sunset Point Home in Chelan.
She was born, March 30, 1905, at Pembina, N.D., to Donald and Mary Ellen McLeod.
At an early age, she moved to Seattle with her family. She attended schools there. In 1923, she was graduated from Roosevelt High School, Seattle, with the first graduating class.
After further training she received her teaching certificate. Later, she continued her education and received a Bachelor of Arts degree, after studying at the University of Washington and Western Washington Normal School.
She began her teaching career at a country school in the Horse Heaven Hills near Goldendale. While visiting her sister at Manson, she met her husband-to-be, Hal Field and they were married on Sept. 3, 1925, at Wenatchee.
Beside the school at Horse Heaven Hills, her teaching locations also include Malaga, Winesap and Holden. From 1957 until her retirement in 1970, she taught in the Chelan School District.
Her memberships included a long-term membership in Silver Star 93, O.E.S., of which she was a past Worthy Matron; 12 Aces Bridge Club; Chelan Senior Center; and the Roosevelt High School Golden Grads.
She was preceded in death by her husband.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Gene (Mary Ellen) Lacy, of Kenmore; three grandchildren: Janice Coleman, of Lakewood; Melissa Drysdale, of Kirkland; Michael Lacy, of Bothell; and three great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Gathering will be announced at a later date.
