On Jan. 9 the Manson School District, in partnership with Lake Chelan Community Hospital (LCCH), held its first annual Family Fit and Fun Night at Manson High School. The evening was highlighted by keynote speakers Ty McAllister, owner of True Fitness in Manson, Arnold Baker, Manson fire chief, Jannel Rynd, LCCH occupational therapist, and Max, friendly spokesdog for Club Max, the hospital's child wellness program.
Following a community dinner and speakers, families circulated through a dozen health and fitness-themed booths provided by local businesses, health professionals and the Manson Fire Department, which signed families up for a free smoke alarm program. Children and families tried activities like Zumba, yoga and cross fit, as well as sampled nutritional food. Parents and children were also offered free blood pressure and glucose screenings from LCCH Emergency Medical Services.
The evening concluded with a cardio-respiratory endurance test ran by several Manson students, teachers administrators, including elementary principal Heather Ireland. The test, administered by Manson Elementary teacher Jay Fox, is named the "Pacer," and it is administered to grades 3-5 in Manson twice a year as part of the Fitness Gram standardized testing.More than 200 students and parents participated in the Family Fit and Fun Night.
Special thanks go out to the speakers, supporting businesses and the LCCH Club Max children's wellness program. Club Max is funded by the LCCH Foundation and through grant support from the North Central Washington Foundation.
