Rodriguez earns scholarship
Submitted by Rev. Sylvia Dabney

Rev. Sylvia Dabney, a board member of Your Lake Chelan Wedding Association has just announced the winner of the 2014 scholarship award from Your Lake Chelan Wedding Association. The presentation was Sunday, June 1 at the Chelan Senior High School.
Rev. Sylvia said, "having thoroughly read all the applications for our scholarship award this year, and having also spoken to Rod Cool who wrote a letter of recommendation for this young man, I have chosen Jesus Rodriguez as the recipient of Your Lake Chelan Wedding Association scholarship for 2014.
He will be attending Wenatchee Community College for two years working towards a degree in Horticulture, and then will transfer to WSU after obtaining his two-year Associate degree. He comes from a migrant family who works in the orchards, his GPA is excellent, he has been on several National Honor Societies, has a great need as the first person in his family to go to college and is "driven" to return to Chelan to better Fruit Production and the Agricultural Industry here in the Chelan Valley. After all, we are an Agriculture Entity here in Washington, from fruit to the such a very big part of our Chelan Valley.
He has worked at Farmer Jon's orchard and The Great Swede Ranch since 2009 and still has maintained a nearly 4.0 grade point and he has committed himself to excellence in all of his endeavors, which Rod Cool says is one of his best attributes.
We are hoping that one day in the future, Jesus will pay it forward and help another young student with his or her dreams.
We're excited for you....we think you are a great recipient and future mover and shaker in our community, and we believe in the "commitment to excellence" you wrote about in your essay! Doubt kills more dreams than failure ever will, Jesus did not doubt himself, he dared himself.
Jesus, there are a few words I hope you will remember.
Your future is not about what you've done, it's about becoming what you know you can be and most importantly, remember your FFA Advisor at Chelan High School, Mr. Rod Cools favorite quote 'The man at the top of the mountain didn't fall there.'
Your Lake Chelan Wedding Association thanks all the wonderful students who submitted such moving essays and especially their teachers and student advisors without whom, they may have never believed in their dream."
