Welcome from the rodeo queen

Submitted by Michelle Scaman
Rodeo Lake Chelan Queen

Wow! I am thrilled to be your Lake Chelan Rodeo Queen for 2010! I plan to work hard in promoting the Rodeo and help with continuing its growth throughout the year. Rodeo is a sport for all age groups and is such an exciting and unique sport.

I am 20 years old and live in the beautiful Entiat Valley; I have been fortunate to be the fifth generation to be raised on our family orchard, with my parents Karolyn and Fred Scaman and my older brother David. We have five wonderful horses, three energetic dogs and one grumpy cat.

Horses have been a part of my life since I was a baby; my mom grew up with horses and has owned them her entire life. The love she has for the wonderful four legged companions has been passed on to me as well. I started 4-H when I was in the eighth grade, and fell in love with it. I have learned so much through 4-H, participating in teen conferences, being a teen leader, and learning the responsibilities of taking care of your horse. I have also gained much of my public speaking confidence through 4-H having the strength to be confident talking in front of large groups. Working with the Entiat 4-H club, I try to inspire the younger children to be as enthused in 4-H, equestrian teams and rodeos just as much as I am.

In high school I was active in varsity softball, basketball, cheerleading, ASB ad manager, and the Washington State Equestrian Team. My favorite sports were the equestrian team and softball; I participated in keyhole, pole bending, team sorting, figure-8, bi-wrangle, team Canadian flags and some more performance classes.

In fall 2008 I pursed my education at Wenatchee Valley College, were I am a member of Phi Theta Kappa honor society. I will graduate in the spring of 2010 with my Associate of Science degree. Continuing my education, I will be attending Central Washington University this fall, were I plan to major in elementary education.

The last four years I have participated in the Grand Entry at the Lake Chelan Rodeo with an outstanding turn out of other riders, I know this year will be just as wonderful. I'm positive that I will have a great year being the Lake Chelan Rodeo Queen; I plan on attending many rodeos, fairs, and parades and community events to represent the wonderful Lake Chelan Rodeo.  Hope to see you all there!
