Chelan football working to win
Coach Darren Talley is making his boys run this season.

"We're running a ton," he said, watching the Chelan High School football players dance grapevines across the field. "Trying to get everyone equally in shape."

There's new blood on the offensive line, with four players learning their positions. "So far they're doing a great hob," he said.

Chelan High School girls soccer 'focused and eager'
With less than a week to go before their first game, Coach Erik Peterson said Chelan girls soccer is coming together as a team.

"There is a good feeling on the field," Peterson said.

Lady Goats volleyball season opens Saturday
Chelan's Lady Goats volleyball is gearing up for the fall season.

Last year, Chelan's girls took dominated the Caribou Trail League and took the district title. It wasn't until the final round of the state tournament in Yakima that the team saw trouble, losing in a close match against King's and taking second in the 1A tournament.

Young yogis
Downward dog and warrior pose got a shot of youthful energy this past Wednesday at YogaChelan's final yoga class for kids this summer in Centennial Park. Teacher Dan White schooled brothers Dillon McCardle, 7, and Austin, 5, on yogic breathing and a series of yoga positions, plus some good old fun and tumbling. The classes are a joint effort by the yoga studio and Chelan's Parks and Recreation Department.

Join Soroptimist International of Chelan in promoting breast cancer awareness through the Chelan Chase.

Many thousands of women have been touched by breast cancer in one way or another during their life time; the Chelan Chase would like to make more women aware of breast cancer and how early detection can help save lives.

Entiat River cleanup this weekend
Cascadia Conservation District, the City of Entiat, and the Entiat Watershed Planning Unit invite locals to participate in a coordinated effort to clean-up public access points.

The First Annual Entiat River Cleanup will be held on Saturday, Aug. 28 from 9 a.m. to noon. Volunteers are needed to comb the banks of the Entiat River at Entiaqua Park and Entiat National Fish Hatchery.

Chelan Warriors FC defeated the Cashmere Select Team 1-0 at Lincoln Rock Park last Saturday, Aug. 21. The only goal of the night was scored by Zac Crim in the second half.

Lake Chelan Aquatic and Community Center Committee looking for volunteers
"We need help," said Erin McCardle, chairwoman of the Lake Chelan Aquatics and Community Center Committee. "Our group has made a lot of progress over the last several years and it's time that we package our efforts and present our thoughts to the community. We need help to assemble all of the details and to create the final plan for funding. We have a long list of items that need attention so there's something there for anyone who wants to help see a community center and pool be built."
