Chelan County Primary results garner candidate comments

Posted

WENATCHEE - It has been over a week since the August 7 primaries and some of the candidates have given comments about their performance and their outlooks for the future.

To be fair, not all candidates were asked for a comment, nor did all the candidates who were asked for a comment choose to give one. If more candidates come forward in the future, their comments will also be published.

The candidate's name and office they are seeking appear in bold before their comment:

Michael Steele (12th District State Representative)
I am honored that the people of the 12th Legislative District have given me the opportunity to advance to the General Election and ultimately send me back to Olympia to continue working on their behalf. I am excited to continue my policy work around Work Force Housing needs, Career Connected Learning opportunities and Career and Technical Educations. I want to continue to focus on Job growth, economic prosperity and development here in Central Washington.

I look forward to continue to meet with people around the district throughout the remainder of the campaign to listen and help me build my next set of legislative priorities for the next session in Olympia.

Allen Blackmon (Chelan County District Judge)
I am encouraged by the results so far, but there is still a long way to go.  This is just the primary, and if these results hold, then there are three more months to the general election.  So, a long road to go, but this is a good start.

One of the things that is encouraging are the responses I am getting when my campaign is door-belling and meeting members of our communities.  The public is responding very positively to my 21 years of experience as a prosecutor representing us in our local courts.  It seems that the community really values that experience when deciding who should be the next judge.

Another area that is getting an overwhelming level of support is my work in our community regarding mental health.  I am a founding member, in partnership with mental health professionals in our area, of the innovative program of a mental health diversion program in our courts.  This program is getting just a tremendous amount of positive responses.  I am very proud all the work that I and others in our area have done regarding mental health in our courts.  It truly is a much-needed area of attention in our community.
Like I said, I am encouraged by the results so far, but I plan to continue to strive to work even harder to get out the message of my campaign. And if elected, I will make sure our county has experience, innovation, fairness, and impartiality on the bench.

Bob Bugert (Chelan County Commissioner)
I was pleased with the results of the primary.  It shows that people don’t necessarily vote based on party affiliation, particularly since  most of the voters went for independent candidates.  People tend to look  more at experience and track record for getting things done, rather  than party line. I think that is a positive sign for my campaign, as a  moderate, experienced candidate with a proven track record on the issues we face.

I’ve  worked on the top issues facing our county: growth, housing and transportation. I have managed multi-million dollar budgets. And, I know how to support and retain a strong workforce.

Keith Goehner (12th District State Representative)
I am grateful for the support in the primary.  I am looking forward to the opportunity of clarifying the issues and their impacts on the District.  There is still a lot of work to be done before the general so I will be doing my best to complete the obligations I have to the County and continuing the campaign.

As a reminder, the final and official certified results will not be announced until Tuesday, August 21.
