City of Entiat receives Forestry Assistance grant to plant native tree species

Posted

ENTIAT - The City of Entiat is proud to announce recently receiving a 2018 Small Community Forestry Assistance Grant for $12,000.  Funds for this project were provided by the USDA Forest Service Urban and Community Forestry Program, administered through the State of Washington Department of Natural Resources Urban and Community Forestry Program.  The Entiat Tree Board will be working with the Columbia Breaks Fire Interpretative Center and the Entiat Community Historical Society on planting fifteen native tree species that were here when pioneers arrived and those plantings that will do well as fire wise selections in demonstration zones on the Columbia Breaks property.
This joint effort has each organization contributing their expertise to produce an interesting and practical display for schools, the community and outside visitors.   Educating all ages about these native trees, shrubs and plants and their place in our lives is a natural accompaniment to information about local wildfire ecology.  We hope to stir local interest in the project and help from volunteers of all ages who appreciate the history and environment of the community in which we live.
