Earth Day celebrations honoring Mother Earth commences April 19

Posted

CHELAN – Earth Day celebration commences with a city-wide clean-up across Chelan on Friday, April 19. Individuals and groups are encouraged by the City to clean up their neighborhoods, the parks and along the lakeshore. See pages A2 and A4 for more information and how you can volunteer to help.

The festivities will go on into Saturday, April 20 when the 30th Annual Lake Chelan Earth Day Fair kicks off at 10 a.m. in Chelan’s Riverwalk Park. To educate people on ways to take care of Earth is the objective behind this event.

“We will have about 95 booths,” said Anne Brooks. There will be “food vendors, plant sale, book sale, entertainment all day long, electric vehicles and tools, a kids’ area,” she added.

Among the educational booths people will be able to find; Chelan County PUD, the Forest Service, Noxious Weed representative and other organizations.

During the celebration, students from the Lake Chelan School of Innovation will be “screening” t-shirts. Brooks encourages all attendees to bring in a light colored t-shirt to have it stamped to honor Mother Earth. Students will also be advertising and selling their cold brew coffee.

Devin Smith and Meagan Clausen of Glass to Sand at Lake Chelan are going to be demonstrating bottle crushing to all who stop by their booth. Also participating this year is the Lake Chelan EMS. They will be holding a Bike Rodeo for the little ones and teach them bike safety.

Brooks hopes for nice weather to help with the day’s activities and perhaps some sun would be nice too. If the weather cooperates, solar baked cookies will be cooking.

The event is free and open to all, “wander the whole park,” said Brooks and don’t forget to check out the Information Booth located at the entrance of the event to learn more about the different exhibitors.
