Kiwanis annual barbecue fundraiser sells out

Posted

Manson Kiwanis held its 36th annual Independence Day Chicken Barbecue at the Manson Grange Hall on Sunday, July 1.

Starting at noon, the club’s members and friends served over 300 meals of barbecued chicken with baked beans, French bread, coleslaw and beverages over four hours, wrapping up at 4 in the afternoon.

Virtually every member of this small club was involved, along with a number of volunteers from the community including several members of the Manson High School football team, who moved tables and chairs to set up and then put them back when the event was over, and several friends of club members who took part in the barbecuing of the main course.

Special thanks go out from the club to the Manson Red Apple Market, who made sure Kiwanis had what it needed to produce the event, including donating a lot of the food.

This event, one of several that Manson Kiwanis holds annually, sold out after serving all the available chicken.

As with all of the club’s projects, all net profits go into a fund to provide scholarships to Manson High graduates – which this year totaled $6,000.

The club is always looking for potential new members, and of course welcomes the help of anyone who’d like to help with this or any of the club’s events, or who’s interested in joining the club.   Contact club president Amiko Severns at (509) 393-1565, or John Haggerty at (509) 881-4435.
