MANSON – Manson Parks and Recreation met for a regularly scheduled board meeting Thursday, Sept. 14 at the Parks Office. The meeting covered a range of topics including:

Learn to Swim Program and Lake Chelan Swim statistics.

Aquatic Supervisor Viki Downey shared statistics from the Learn to Swim program for this year. According to Downey, a total of 537 students and 13 adults took advantage of the free swimming lessons. The Lake Chelan Swim also produced a great turnout, despite the moderate wind in the valley. During the Chelan Swim event, Saturday Sept. 9 in Manson, 33 of the 39 participants completed the course.

Park Improvements and Manson Bay Waterfront Revitalization Project.

The parks board reviewed and discussed an interlocal agreement draft from the Port District of Chelan County. After review, it was unanimously decided that Manson Parks board members would be in attendance at the Port’s Oct. 3 meeting to present the Waterfront Revitalization Project and request port support. Board members reviewed and approved an on-call contract with Pacific Engineering out of Wenatchee. The engineering group offers a multitude of services to aide in the Waterfront Revitalization project including grant funding, pre-design, and master plan.

Park updates.

Manson Bay will be seeing sidewalk grinding and concrete work around the park. Local artist Mark Strain unveiled a new addition to the Gary Knowlton Memorial. After the renaming of the Manson Bay swim area to “Gary Knowlton Memorial Swim Area” on Oct. 16, 2016, Strain accepted the task of creating a plaque to identify the newly named swim area. Saturday, Sept. 9 the plaque was unveiled after the Lake Chelan Swim event. “The plaque perfectly represents Gary’s energy and love of life,” said the media release on the new addition to the memorial wall.
