MANSON - With the efforts of moving forward with grant applications, by unanimous decision the Manson Parks Board agreed to commit $75,000 for the Singleton Park playground renovation.

The monies will come from the reserve fund that currently has $215,000 set aside for emergency projects. It is estimated that the total cost for the new playground could range from $120,000 up to $125,000.

Parks Director Robin Pittman informed the board that they applied for the Chelan-Douglas Developmental Disabilities Program grant for $20,000. Which is still in the works, however Pittman mentioned that it is looking like they might get $15,000. The potential money from this program will allow the purchase of ADA playground equipment plus other inclusive options.Pittman is working along with Kara Raftery of Pacific Engineering and will be applying for other grants that will help fund the project.

Fourth of July festivities at Manson Bay raised safety concerns which the board addressed at the July 11 meeting. Board chair Rob Campbell reported that his first concern on that day was people lining up chairs between the Marina and swim area. He said he had to move some aside because it was a safety concern for walkers on the sidewalk. Campbell also stated that people were not following the rules and were swimming in undesignated areas along with floatie toys. Bike riding on the docks added to the concerns.

Before the meeting, Campbell sent out the full Marina rules and guidelines to the rest of the board members to review. “In this case, I would rather just hand deliver the rules to the offending party,” said Campbell. To this the rest of them agreed and if they see something they will say something.

The board approved moving forward with a towing services agreement from Stormin’ Towing. Towing signs will next be posted at Old Mill Park, Wapato Lake, Singleton Park and the Old Swim Hole.

An executive session at the end of the meeting was conducted to discuss updates on Leffler Field property acquisition. There was no action taken afterwards. The next regular meeting for Manson Parks will be held on August, 8 at 4:10 p.m.
