Manson Parks prepares levy for Special Election ballot in April

MANSON – The Manson Parks and Recreation district has moved forward with the inclusion of a levy on the April Special Election ballot. The levy will be for 23 cents per thousand dollars of assessed property evaluation, explained Parks Director Robin Pittman. The requested rate of 23 cents has remained constant for the past six years, she stated, “we’re not asking for more, we just want to keep doing what we’re doing.”
The money acquired will be applied toward maintenance and operations, helping to fund local Parks programs and events, such as the AAU program, life guards at Manson Bay and the annual Easter egg hunt. The levy will remain for three years starting in 2019 through 2021, “to replace an expired maintenance and operation levy to support parks and programs,” as stating in the levy.
“We can do up to a six-year levy, but basically the board likes to check in with the community,” emphasized Pittman, on sticking with the three-year levy to make sure everything is satisfactory in the community, as opposed to being stuck with a rate for a six-year period.” The 23-cent levy will be just under $50 a year per household whose value is around $200,000.  “We operate a pretty small budget,” she concluded, “so it’s a good portion of our funds and it keeps us up and running.”
