No-See-Um construction moving along without hiccup

Posted

CHELAN - It might be hard to miss the construction of the No-See-Um roundabout along Highway 150, but with drivers using the shoe-fly detour, it can be a challenge to see how the project is progressing.

Good news, according to Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) Project Engineer Kevin Waligorski the project is moving along right on schedule.

“The biggest snag we hit so far was with the start date of the project,” Waligorski said. “We got a little later start date than planned, however we have been looking for opportunities to streamline and accelerate the work and get back on schedule.”

Waligorski anticipates the project will be “substantially complete” this year, though there might be some minor elements that could push work into spring 2018.

“At this point though, I anticipate we’ll be wrapped up with the majority of the work around the first of November,” Waligorski stated.

Once the round-a-bout is complete, Waligorski said the shoe-fly detour will be “removed and regraded.”

“On the East side we will construct a storm-water detention pond to hand storm-water run off,” Waligorski stated. “The West side will be filled in and a slope reconstructed and seeded.”

“The contractor is finishing up underground utility work with water and sewer upgrades. They are also installing electrical wiring for the illumination system and constructing retaining walls along the lake side of the road,” Waligorski concluded. “Once this work wraps up they will bring in crushed rock and start pouring concrete curbs and the roundabout will start to take shape.”
