Senior Living Initiative to meet July 10

Review of April meeting

Posted

CHELAN - In a previous Senior Living Initiative steering committee meeting held in April, updates were given on the Campus of Care along with reports from the community nurse program and Tender Loving Care (TLC).

Amanda Ballou of the Campus Task Force reported that she had met with Catholic Charities Housing Services and the Office of Rural Farm Worker Housing. The meeting began with conversations about  “development services that could support the next phase of the project.” The application for the acquisition for the Campus of Care was under review by the Impact Capital in Seattle and the Washington State Housing Finance Commission.

Susie Zimmer, Chelan Valley Community Nurse, had a few updates that included the search for two community members to join their Board of Directors. Zimmer continues holding blood pressure screenings every Sunday after the Lake Chelan Lutheran Church service and at the Chelan Senior Center during Senior Meals. Kathy Miller of TLC for Seniors reported that TLC had received an award of $11,200 through the Community Foundation of NCS “that continues to build a solid base in 2019,” along with donations from generous locals. Miller stated that client visits and client transportation have logged over 10,000 miles since the program was established in September 2017. “They have provided over 1,000 free visits to 56 of our most vulnerable seniors.  This equates to about 2,000 hours of  service from 25 trained volunteers.”

The next Senior Living Initiative meeting will be Wednesday, July 10, from 5-6:30 p.m. at the Chelan PUD Conference Room on Woodin Avenue. One agenda item will be to further the discussion of the need for workshops which focus on various aspects on end of life preparation, including “Advanced Care Plan” talk.
