The Running of the Grapes

New three event vineyard runs

Posted

CHELAN - It’s Spring Barrel Tasting in the Chelan Valley the weekend of May 20.

Kickoff  your weekend  with one of  Lake Chelan Rotary’s brand new three event vineyard runs,  a real “Runappalooza.” This May 20, 2017 event lets you run through beautiful views of mountains, lake, and grape vines between the award winning Tsillan Cellars and Tunnel Hill vineyards. Profits from this fund-raiser go to scholarships for Lake Chelan Valley students as well as a future park project Lake Chelan Rotary is currently developing.

Seasoned runners will enjoy the 5K Vineyard Challenge laid out in a double loop   with a total elevation gain of 900 feet.  Bragging rights and breathtaking views await those who accept this challenge.

The 5 K Fun Run invites experienced and novice runners and walkers to push for enjoyment over speed. Bring the dog. You can both stretch your legs.

The 2.5 K Fun Run welcomes family/ friend groups and the short legs (kids and dogs).  This is a great opportunity for elementary student running clubs and relaxed jogging-walking participants.

“Amazing vistas of vineyards and big blue Lake Chelan, invigorating fresh-air exercise with friends and my dog along for the run – what could be better?  I can’t wait to take part in the 2017 Rotary Vineyard Challenge and Fun Run.” Guy Evans, Chelan

All three runs will be timed. Recognition awarded to top 3 male and female finishers of the 5K Vineyard Challenge. The 5K Fun Run will recognize top 3 male and female and top three runners finishing with their dog companion. The 2.5K Fun Run will recognize the top 3 boy and girl finishers ages 12 and under and top 3 finishers 12 and under with their dog companion.

Though we won’t stomp grapes, activities during the morning will include a silent auction, kids’ games, hot dogs on the grill, and even a wagon ride or two up to the Winery for a tour.

“Boo for snow. Yea for sun.  Lets go outside and run,” Afters Program Director, Rosey Burkhard, said.
