Chelan school safety issues

Posted

CHELAN - 1. All Students: Students are hanging/visiting/playing waiting outside for buses to depart.  When buses close doors and start to depart, we are having kids run last minute banging on bus, because they need to get on. This is extremely unsafe and it stops the flow of buses, and it makes them slam on brakes, etc. This is a safety concern.  So, from now on, when buses shut doors and start to depart they will not be stopping due to safety concerns and bus flow. Please load the bus in a timely manner before it's time to depart, so no one gets left, no one gets hurt and that we can be on time because buses need to get rolling so they meet their schedules.
2. Kids are using unattended crosswalks and running into the street below bus turn on Webster Avenue.  There are two crosswalks that are not supervised by crossing guards. We need all students to use the main, attended crosswalk,  when crossing the street on Webster Avenue for safety issues. Students have been darting out into traffic halfway down into traffic towards bridge as well, and we have had some close calls of accidents. We are asking all students and parents to please encourage students to use main crosswalk attended by crossing guards when crossing the street before and after school.
I can be reached 682-4061 ext.713.
