FFA Creed Contest kicks off spring competition season

Posted

MANSON - The spring leadership development event season for the Chelan FFA has officially kicked off and they started with a bang.  Sub District Creed Speaking Leadership Development Event is the kickoff event of the spring competition season.  On Tuesday, March 14, the Manson Grange hosted event as they have for over 50 years.  This year 21 fresh faced first year members nervously awaited their turn to recite the words that E.M. Tiffany penned 87 years ago.

Chelan had 7 young ladies in the competition.   Macaela LaPorte,  Bailey Hiemark,  Molly Oswald, Caroline Kelly, Ella Tschetter, Dee Lysiak, and Ashlyn Sanderson have spent the last month or so developing their speaking style,  building their speaking voice, and finding their passion for leadership events.

After the traditional potluck dinner, competitors drew their speaking order, and awaited their turn to recite the creed and answer a question about it.  Twenty-one competitors from the Cashmere, Chelan, Eastmont, Manson, and Chelan FFA chapters stood nervously in front of a crowd of parents, judges, and other members and delivered their best version of the FFA Creed.   When all the members had gone and the judges had hashed over their scoresheets the results were announced.  At stake were five berths to the District VII Leadership Development Event held in Chelan on Wednesday, March 22.

The first place winner was Haley Gilman of Eastmont,  Ashlyn Sanderson of Chelan was second, Maritza Orozco of Cashmere was third,  Delia Lysiak of Chelan fourth,  and Ella Tschetter of Chelan fifth.

At District level members from the North and South halves of District VII come together to determine the 4 berths into State competition.   State is held May 11-13 on the campus of Washington State University in Pullman.
