Lillian Mae Polley

1930-2023
Lillian Mae Polley passed away on July 16, 2023. She lived with dementia for many years. Lillian was born on October 12, 1930, in California, to Ida and Tracy Craig. The family then moved to Chelan to join her grandfather in his icehouse business. Chelan became her lifelong home. She had many fond memories of her childhood. Some of them were playing hide and seek, kick the can, and swimming for hours with the children of the town. She told stories of being so excited to finally be big enough to use the rope swing that went out over the water!  Lillian graduated high school and married Duane Polley, three days after she turned 18. She said that he then quit bugging her so much at work in the city park at the popcorn stand! Once in while she would remind him that he was just her first husband. They were married 73 years.
Lillian and Duane had two daughters. She stayed home to raise them, except to work in harvest packing apples. Lillian was an expert seamstress who made all her daughters’ clothes including their wedding dresses, then she said OK, that’s it! That was not really true because she also made baby blankets for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a wonderful cook and baker. She made the best pies ever! She loved her family so much and was always there with help and a hug. Every holiday, her house was full of kids, grandkids, great-grandkids, and many pups also. Wonderful chaos!  Lillian also enjoyed going for walks, out to lunch, and playing cards with her friends. She especially liked going up lake to the family cabin with Duane and their close friends the Pepples.
Lillian was a funny, sweet, and kind woman, who always looked for the bright side of everything in life. She will be in our hearts forever. We will always remember her laughter and wonderful hugs.  Watch out Dad here she comes!
Lillian is survived by her daughters: Linda and Janis; her grandchildren: Jessica, Keelyanne, Gabrielle, Meghan, and Casey; great-grandchildren: Thomas, Nolan, Tristan, Ethan, Grace, and Halee; nieces: Cydney, Debbie, Crystal, Teresa and Barb; and nephew, Scott.
The family would like to thank Hospice and Welcome Home Villa for their expert and loving help with Mom’s end of life care. We would not have been able to handle it without you. Big hug from Jan.
