Manson Trojans Sports Roundup

MANSON - The Manson Trojans demonstrated their commitment to excellence and personal growth in track and field, tennis, and baseball events this past week. At the Ray Cockrum Relays, the track team achieved significant improvements, with athletes setting new personal records and shaving valuable time off their performances from the previous year. The tennis teams faced tough competition against Chelan, with the boys securing a hard-fought victory and the girls narrowly missing out on a win despite strong individual performances. In baseball, the varsity and JV teams both triumphed over the Tonasket Tigers, thanks to outstanding pitching and offensive contributions. As the Trojans continue their season, they remain focused on pushing their limits and representing their school with pride.

Track and Field:

The Manson track team competed in the Ray Cockrum Relays at Wenatchee High School on March 26th, facing off against 10 other schools from around the state. The boys' 4x100m relay team, consisting of Junior Gomez, Kaiden Zener, Vince Strecker, and Johan Cruz, shaved 0.33 seconds off their best time from last year. Yaritzi Villasenor set a huge personal record in the 1600m, running 18 seconds faster than her previous best from last week. Ellie Smith also achieved a personal record in the women's shot put, throwing over 2 feet further than last week.

Tennis:

On March 28th, the Manson tennis teams hosted Chelan at Harmony Meadows for their first home match of the season. The boys' team secured a 3-2 victory, with Ben Rasmusson, Ashton Fretwell, and Cavan Willard remaining undefeated in singles. The girls' team lost a close match, 2-3, despite strong performances from Karly Naranjo in singles and the doubles team of Natalee Reyna and Genesis Torres, who maintained their undefeated season. The JV team also saw several victories from Stephen Bercier, Alex Chavez, Maggie Gosvener, Elizabeth Hutchinson, Destiny Lopez, and Mary Hutchinson.

Baseball:

The Manson Trojans baseball team hosted the Tonasket Tigers on March 26th at Singleton Park. In the varsity game, senior pitcher Carter Lyman led the Trojans to a 7-2 victory, striking out 7 batters and allowing only 2 hits and 2 runs in 6 innings. Cooper Pinski contributed with 2 hits, 2 runs, and an RBI. The JV team also secured a 7-3 win in a game called after 5 innings due to darkness. Spencer Thompson and Quinn Williams each had 2 hits, with Williams hitting his 3rd triple of the season.
