Patty’s Animal Rescue looking for community help to reach fundraising goals

Posted

CHELAN – Now is a good time to clean out your closets and help local animal shelter Patty's Animal Rescue.

A Cause for Paws Thrift Store, which supports the animal shelter, is collecting 13-gallon black bags full of clothing and other soft donation items from now until Jan. 20, 2024.

The Black Bag Soft fundraiser is through the Seattle area Value Village, which helps nonprofits fundraise. Shelter and Thrift store owner Patty Hendrickson has a goal of collecting 1,250 full black bags.

If she meets that goal, Value Village will give $6,000 to the animal shelter.

So far, Hendrickson has collected 700 bags.

Items do not have to be donated in a black bag. Hendrickson will transfer the items if needed. Donation items can be clothing, purses, shoes, comforters, stuffed animals, etc., as long as they can fit in a 13-gallon bag.

All proceeds from the fundraiser and thrift store support Patty's Animal Shelter. Funds pay for animal food, shelter, vet care, etc.

Hendrickson has been operating the shelter since 2014 and the thrift store for over a year.

Hendrickson will help just about any type of animal she can because it is her passion and has been since she was a young child.

"We have dogs and cats and kittens, puppies, a llama, goats and we have a flying squirrel," Hendrickson said. "We've had bunnies."

Hendrickson said she will rescue everything except wild birds because they are too delicate and never seem to survive. But she has rescued chickens, turkeys, and ducks.

If there is an animal in need, Hendrickson is the one to call.

The thrift store is also always accepting donations though they do not have the manpower to accept heavy items such as furniture and appliances. The thrift store and shelter are run by Henrickson with help from her husband, Mike, son James, and other family members.

Donations may be dropped off at A Cause for Paws Thrift store at 131 S. Apple Blossom Dr. #111, Chelan. Patty's Animal Rescue is located at Hendrickson's home outside of Chelan.
