Peter Prehn Art Show

From now until July 1, Peter Prehn will be having an art show at the Leavenworth Library. Peter, a self-described “photoholic”, can be found where the road ends or the hiking the local trails with a camera looking to capture a glimpse of the living earth. Stop by the Fireside Room in the Leavenworth Library during regular hours to see his art.

Ski Hill Lodge hosts evening poetry celebration

Local award-winning authors Ana Maria Spagna (“Mile Marker Six”), and Derek Sheffield (“Not for luck”) join visiting author Sarah Van Arsdale (“Taken”) for an evening of selected poetry readings and conversation.

These artists offer insightful commentaries through their work, and participants can enjoy a free relaxing night of words, wine, and good company on the Ski Hill Lodge patio. Sunday, June 12, 6 p.m. Information: 509-548-1451.

Dryden Transfer Station minimum fee increase

Beginning June 1, the minimum fee at the Dryden Transfer Station will increase by $5 to $30. The fee is applied to loads that are 420 pounds or less.

In addition, the municipal solid waste fee will increase to $125 per ton. The increases are due to the increased costs associated with hauling and disposing the material at the Greater Wenatchee Landfill in East Wenatchee. The resolution, passed by commissioners on May 24, is available online at www. co.chelan.wa.us

Annual Countywide Burn Ban returns

Chelan County Commissioners signed off on a countywide burn ban on May 31, that will be held in place from June through September. Open burning within unincorporated areas within Chelan County are strictly prohibited, along with recreational campfires, fireworks, and burning trash or burn barrels.

The following are also restricted during this time: Burning yard waste, such as leaves, grass, brush and other yard trimmings is prohibited. Burning to clear land of trees, stumps, shrubbery, or other natural vegetation is prohibited. Residents may still have campfires so long as the fire is in an approved pit or area. Restricted open flame devices, meaning using devices liable to start a fire in moderate fire hazard areas. Portable fireplaces are allowed so long as they’re on noncombustible surfaces and burn only natural wood products.

Moderate travel restrictions are also in effect, meaning motorists can’t operate vehicles off the roadway. The Wenatchee Area Genealogical Society Will hold a hybrid meeting on Monday, June 13, at 2 p.m. California researcher Jean Wilcox Hibben will present "Life on the Farm: Records, Reports and More." The inperson meeting will be held at the Douglas PUD Auditorium, 1151 Valley Mall Parkway, East Wenatchee.
