CHELAN - Heritage Heights’ featured local artist for April is Leslie Myers, a perfect choice for springtime in the Lake Chelan Valley. Born in Yakima, Leslie discovered her talent early, earning a Bachelor of Arts at Central Washington University.  Myers artwork will be on display through April, with Cam Elder coming to the Lake Chelan Art Council-sponsored Gallery Wall in May.   Please give Heritage a courtesy call at 509-682-1998 for best times and days to stop by.

CHELAN -  The Lake Chelan Arts Council Outdoor Gallery brochure is available at the Lake Chelan and Manson Chambers of Commerce. Follow the Outdoor Gallery map to discover and enjoy over 40 murals and sculptures located throughout Chelan and Manson. Virtual healthy living series:

April 27, May 4

WENATCHEE/VIRTUAL - NCW Libraries is partnering with Confluence Health to offer a virtual Health Living Series this spring featuring an introduction to healthy living, weight loss, sleep, and cancer prevention and screening.

This weekly series will run from April 13-May 25, each Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. A provider from Confluence will lead the presentation followed by a question and answer session. April 27: Cover Your Butt: Colon Cancer Prevention and Screening, with Dr. Jen Jorgensen, Director of Subspeciality Medicine and Manager of Gastroenterology, and on May 4: A Healthy Approach to Weight Loss with Dr. Andrew Toth and Nutritionist Jess Tyrell.

Spring Hours

CHELAN - The Lake Chelan Historical Society has new spring hours for the Chelan Museum in Historic Downtown Chelan, at the corner of Woodin Avenue and Emerson Street. SAIL Exercise Classes:

April 28, May 2, 4

CHELAN - SAIL (Stay Active & Independent for Life) fitness classes are offered at Chelan Senior Center on Monday and Wednesday at 1 p.m. and are taught by Beth Shaw and Linda Hollier. Evening SAIL classes are Monday and Thursday evenings at 5:30 p.m., also at the Chelan Senior Center and are taught by Ann Cooper.

Volunteer gleaners needed

CHELAN - The Lake Chelan Food Bank food giveaway is on Saturday and Tuesday, 9-10 a.m. Distribution is  drive-thru. They are located at 417 S. Bradley Street. The Food Bank is getting requests for pet food. Small bags of dog food are best. They can be dropped of at the Lake Chelan Mirror office, 131 S. Apple Blossom Drive, Ste. 109 (Chelan Business Center.)

The Lake Chelan Food Bank is looking for two teams of two people to help glean Safeway and Walmart once a month starting in April.  They would pickup both Safeway and Walmart on Saturday,  Safeway only on Monday and Walmart only on Tuesday starting at 7:30 am on those days.  Everything is boxed and ready for pickup at the stores. They would ride with one of our current gleaners for training and introductions to the process. We just purchased a covered utility trailer so they would need a vehicle capable of towing. Glass recycle:

CHELAN - Rotary of Lake Chelan 911 Glass Rescue is open on Saturday mornings from 9 a.m.-noon, at 23235 Highway 97A across from WalMart. They are charging a small fee per pound for glass drop-off. Buckets of the materials produced, sand and aggregate, will be available for purchase at $5 per 5-gallon bucket. City of Chelan residents are asked not to put glass into their blue recycle bins, but to bring it out on Saturday mornings. Their all-volunteer team relies on support from members of the community to make the operation run smoothly every week. They have tasks suitable for all ages and abilities. Apple Cup Regatta: 

April 30 - May 1

CHELAN -  The Lake Chelan Norm Evans Apple Cup Regatta will be held April 30 - May 1, 9 a.m.-6 p.m. on Lake Chelan. Some 50 teams from around the Northwest Region (Region 10) will be converging on beautiful Lake Chelan to compete for National and Regional High Points Championships. Beside a multitude of classes of hydroplanes, there will be static displays for photo opportunities and former champions will bring history of the sport of hydroplane racing on Friday evening, April 29 on Woodin Avenue in Downtown Chelan. The Upper Columbia Cup ‘Chase the Grapes’ shootout will have four stages. Stage 1 in Chelan, April 30 - May1, Stage 2 in Pateros August 27 - 28, Stage 3 in Brewster on September 10 - 11 and Stage 4 in Manson on September 24 - 25.

CHELAN - Chelan Friends of the Public Library will meet on Tuesday, May 3, 4 p.m. at the Chelan Public Library. Agenda will include review of the Earth Day Book Sale.

Free brush, yard waste disposal: May 6, 7

CHELAN - There will be a free brush and yard waste disposal held at the Chelan Transfer Station, 23235 Highway 97A on Friday, May 6 and Saturday, May 7, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. There is a 20 yard maximum. If you have more than 20 yards please contact: Cascadia Conservation District at 409-436-1601. Accepted: trees and limbs up to 12 inches in diameter and less than 8 feet long, leaves, pine needles and shrubs. Not accepted: rocks, plastic bags, grass clippings, sod, root wads and weeds.

Mobile Food

Pantry: May 12

MANSON - The Mobile Food Pantry will be at North Shore Bible Church on Thursday, May 12, noon- 2 p.m. All are welcome. It is a walk thru format and guests pick their own food. This will be a regular stop every second Thursday of the month.

Alzheimer’s

Support Group:

May 19

CHELAN - With the support of Aging and Adults and Tender Loving Care for Seniors, an Alzheimer’s Support Group for Chelan/Manson area has restarted. The next meeting will be Thursday, May 19, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. for all caregivers of persons with Alzheimer’s. Meetings will be the 3rd Thursday of the month at Chelan Valley Hope, 417 S. Bradley Street, Chelan. Aging and Adults is providing the facilitator, Bob Poindexter, who has great experience in leading support groups. Please join them to be encouraged on this journey.
