Memorial Day parade, services

CHELAN - MANSON - The 21st annual Memorial Day Parade, be held Thursday, May 25, 7-7:30 p.m. in downtown Chelan, and will honor soldiers, police officers and firefighters who lost their lives in the line of duty. This year, the three fallen firefighters from the Twisp River Fire, and the one survivor, Daniel Lyons, will be honored.  Before the parade, members of service, veterans and their families are invited to enjoy small bites provided by Chelan Catering Kitchen at the Veteran’s Appreciation Social at 5:30 p.m. at the Lake Chelan Chamber of Commerce on Woodin Avenue.

On Friday, May 26, VFW 6538 will have poppy distribution at the post office, Chelan and Manson Red Apple Markets, Safeway and Walmart. The poppies are free, but they do take donations that go into the veteran’s relief fund.  The poppy flower is the official memorial flower of the VFW. On Saturday, May 27  the veterans will be going to both cemeteries, Fraternal and Riverview to place flags on all the gravesites of veterans. They will be heading up to the cemeteries at 9 a.m.

In Chelan on Memorial Day, May 29 there will be a memorial service at Riverwalk Park by the flag pole at 10 a.m.; and in Manson on Monday, May 29, 11 a.m., join members of the Manson American Legion, Post 108 as they celebrate Memorial Day at the American Legion Park across from the Manson Business Center.
