City of Chelan celebrates Arbor Day by planting a tree in park

CHELAN - The City of Chelan was named Tree City USA for the 12th year by the Arbor Day Foundation to honor its commitment to community forestry. The Tree City USA program is sponsored by the Arbor Day Foundation in cooperation with the National Association of State Foresters and the USDA Forest Service.

The City of Chelan held its annual Arbor Day celebration on Thursday, April 18, in Don Morse Park. A free hot dog barbecue with musical entertainment by the Chelan High School Jazz Band were part of the celebration. One hundred and fifty tubed Norway Spruce seedlings were given away, as well as an Arbor Day related educational presentations.

The day served as a way to share the importance of trees which provide an abundance of resources and scenic landscapes to our valley and our continued commitment to be good stewards of the environment.
