Caddie program starting this summer at Gamble Sands

BREWSTER - Gamble Sands will be starting a caddie program this summer in partnership with the Evans Scholars Foundation. Currently, they are looking for 9th and 10th grade students in the area who are high academic achievers from modest financial backgrounds to join the program.

Each year over 200 scholarships are awarded throughout the country by the Foundation. The first two Evans Scholars enrolled at Northwestern University in 1930, and since then, more than 10,830 outstanding young men and women have graduated as Evans Scholars.

This year, there are 985 Evans Scholars enrolled at 18 leading universities nationwide. Evans Scholars are awarded to the University of Washington, Seattle for four years and live with other recipients in the Scholarship House. The community environment in the Scholarship House is an integral concept to the program’s success. Evans Scholars have a graduation rate of 95 percent and a cumulative GPA of 3.3.

Roger Young, Western Golf Association director mentioned that Gamble Sands showed interest in the program because they recognized the benefits it would bring to the community.
