CHELAN - The Chelan Valley Genealogical Society (CVGS) presented their 2018 WSGS Volunteer Award to the Lake Chelan Historical Society on July 19 for the work the volunteers do in the Museum for the Chelan Valley.  The framed Award Certificate was presented and a rose was given to each board member as the following words were read:
"The dedicated volunteers of the Lake Chelan Historical Society have created a genealogical resource without equal in the Chelan Valley; the Chelan Museum is a "Portal to the Past."  There are lifelike scenes from the 1890s before Chelan became a city, and photos of Chelan displayed from the 1890s to the present, some available for purchase.  Impressive collections of regional arrowheads and Indian baskets are displayed.  Family Boards of pioneer families are unique treasures.  The vast amount of memorabilia motivates one to learn more about bygone eras.  Volunteers keep the Obituary Binders up to date and a researcher is available to help find data about early residents.  Stories of early Chelan are published in a yearly booklet.  The mission statement of the Lake Chelan Historical Society is: "To act as an historical resource and cultural center."  Thanks to the diligent efforts of the many volunteers, they are successful and truly deserving of this honor."
