Living Well with Diabetes workshop, Max FamilyFun Run upcoming events for LCCHC

Posted

CHELAN - On Friday, Sept. 14, we begin our second Living Well with Diabetes workshop. This is a six-week course open to anyone living with diabetes or pre-diabetes, and a support person. In the class, participants learn how to better manage their diabetes. Topics are healthy eating, safe exercise, managing medications, preventing low blood sugar, dealing with depression and stress, and working with your healthcare team. Each session focuses on problem solving, decision making and coping skills which help participants confront the ever-challenges of living with diabetes. The class was created at Standford University and hospital teachers Agustin Benegas and Celeste Thomas are certified workshop leaders. Classes are held on Fridays at the hospital from 10 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Our last class was very successful, and we are even having reunions with our students to provide continued support.

Saturday, Sept. 15 is our annual free Max Family Fun Run  held at Wapato Point. This is a special year because it's Max's 5th birthday next month. Max is the ambassador of the hospital's kids' wellness program. He and our wellness team promote fitness and nutrition to children with educational materials, activities and community partnerships. The fun run is in conjunction with Manson's cross country invitational. This year the run will also be a birthday party for Max. It's also the hospital's 70's birthday, we we'll throw that in as well.
