Bats are alive for Goats softball team

Posted

CHELAN - While the boys are away, the girls will play.

That’s at least what happened for the Chelan baseball and softball teams this past weekend as both were expected to play their home opener before the Kittitas baseball team cancelled on Friday.

As a result, the boys were left to rake the field and get it ready for their game on Tuesday as the girls played in a double header against Kittitas and Lynden Christian.

The first game was an offensive explosion for the Goats as they charged out to a double digit lead by the end of the fourth inning. The early afternoon game was highlighted by a deep three-run home run from Katie Gleasman that sailed over the center field fence. Gleasman finished with 4-RBI’s in the game.

Fresh off a second runner up in the Miss Lake Chelan Pageant last week, Taylor Sams was a force on the mound for the Goats. She thre five innings while surrendering only one run and four hits while striking out two. Overall the Goats had 11 hits in the game.

Unfortunately for Chelan, they lost the second game, although their bats continued to stay hot in a 16-17 back-and-forth game.

After falling behind early in the game, Chelan scored seven runs in the fourth inning to take the lead. Gleasman continued her stout offensive play as she hit her second home run of the day.

However, Lynden Christian came back in the sixth inning and scored seven runs of their own to retake the lead.

Despite the loss, Chelan finished with an astounding 20 team hits in the game, which is a good sign moving forward. At least the girls have already seemed to find their rhythm offensively.

The Goats will get back to the practice field this week before taking on Granger on the road next Saturday, March 25 in a double header. First pitch is at 11 a.m. in the first game and 1 p.m. in the second.
